Welcome.

Let us entice you away from all the hustle and bustle. Come to South Airies and the beautiful peninsula named the Rhins of Galloway. Here, if you want it you will have the complete peace and quiet of living in a private Scottish country farmhouse.

South Airies is the perfect wildlife observation retreat. In an area renowned for its diversity of natural beauty including sea shore, open farmland and rolling hills, it is totally secluded within its own 34 acres and is yours alone to enjoy during your stay.
The farmhouse overlooks a small loch that serves the livestock with water on both South Airies and the larger neighbouring Mains of Airies farm (where we live).
The loch is stocked with brown trout and fishing sessions are available to you if you wish.
Behind the loch is a peat bog and between them they are habitat to wild duck and other waterfowl, roe deer, fox, hare, pheasant, owl and many more species of wildlife. We want you to enjoy the peacefulness and the opportunity to observe the wildlife and natural fauna during your stay and encourage you to identify and log your sightings in the “Nature Scrapbook” in the study. Feel free also to leave photos and information of sightings on the notice board in the games room.

Because both South Airies and Mains of Airies are working farms, when taking walks we would like you to be aware of cattle, tractors and electric fences.
You are welcome to wander down to the shore and explore the rocky coastline with its small gravelly bays. There are lovely wild flowers and if patient enough there are otters, seals and other species of wildlife as well as an abundance of seabirds.

An archaeological site of a motte (Castle Ban) is situated on the coast in the shore field on the left at the bottom of our lane.

During your holiday at South Airies you should cook and enjoy some of our succulent Hereford Prime Beef which is bred and reared entirely naturally on our own grass pastures and sold from our farm butchery. Many of our visitors like to take beef back home with them.

Happy Holidays.

Alex Douglas.
